The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has estimated that the flooding events in Queensland and New South Wales this February and March to be the costliest flood event to ever occur in this country.
With just over 197,000 claims the ICA estimates the events have cost $3.34 billion in insured losses across both jurisdictions. This also makes the event Australia's 5th most expensive disaster.
